Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC organized a financial literacy program in Chattogram to encourage expatriate Bangladeshis and their families to send money through legal banking channels and raise awareness against illegal hundi transactions. The program was supported by the Bank’s Chattogram Zonal Office.
The event was inaugurated by Managing Director Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, while Deputy Managing Director and Chattogram Regional Head Rashed Sarwar attended as special guest.
The program included video presentations highlighting the risks of hundi transactions and the importance of financial planning at the household level. Officials from various bank branches, including Jubilee Road Branch EVP Kamruddin Chowdhury and Foreign Remittance Department Head Mohammad Sakawat Hossain, participated alongside expatriates and their families. The session was moderated by AVP Imam Hossain Mahmud of the Bank’s Remittance Management Division.
Addressing the attendees, the Managing Director emphasized the importance of legal remittance channels, the negative impacts of illegal hundi practices, and the role of foreign remittances in strengthening Bangladesh’s economy, with special reference to contributions from Chattogram and Shahjalal Islami Bank.
The program concluded with the distribution of gifts to expatriates’ family members by the bank.
