Finance Adviser Urges Balanced Perspective on Government’s Progress
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has urged the public and media to adopt a more balanced view of the government’s performance, emphasising the importance of acknowledging achievements alongside criticism.
“Positive developments must be recognised — not just the shortcomings,” said Dr Ahmed. “We need to look at progress with inner sight, not merely through a lens of negativity. Don’t focus only on the empty part of the glass; recognise that it is also half full.”
He made the remarks on Sunday during a seminar hosted by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) at its headquarters in Dhaka. The event aimed to brief the media on the major changes in income tax, VAT, and customs policies outlined in the national budget for fiscal year 2025–26.
Addressing concerns over recent economic decisions, the finance adviser acknowledged that mistakes have occurred but stressed the value of constructive criticism and public encouragement.
“Yes, mistakes are made. But it’s also uplifting when good work is recognised,” he said. “Everyone is free to voice their opinions — that is your right — but a fair assessment is vital.”
Also present at the seminar were NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan and Economic Reporters Forum President Doulot Akter Mala.
