Recently, a photocard carrying the logo and design of mainstream daily Ajker Patrika has been circulated on social media with the headline: “Jamaat takes initiative to build idols at nearly 300 puja mandaps across the country.”

Fact-check: No, Ajker Patrika did not publish any news on Jamaat building idols at 300 puja mandaps

The Rumor Scanner team has found that Ajker Patrika did not publish any photocard or news with the headline “Jamaat takes initiative to build idols at nearly 300 puja mandaps across the country.” No evidence was found of such an initiative by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami either.

In reality, a fake photocard was digitally fabricated by copying the design of the newspaper and spreading the false claim on social media.

At the beginning of the investigation, the photocard was closely examined. It carried the logo of Ajker Patrika and mentioned the date of September 24, 2025.

Based on this, Rumor Scanner checked all photocards published on Ajker Patrika’s verified Facebook page on that date. No such headline was found. Similarly, no related report was published on the newspaper’s website.

Further scrutiny of the fake photocard revealed several inconsistencies. For example, the word “Puja” was incorrectly spelled as “Puja” instead of “Puja” , and “Mandap” was misspelled as “Mondob” instead of “Mandop” . In addition, a full stop was placed at the end of the headline, whereas Ajker Patrika and other mainstream media outlets generally do not use punctuation in their headlines.

To confirm the matter, the circulated photocard was compared with the original photocards of Ajker Patrika. The comparison shows that the font used in the circulated photocard is different from the font used in Ajker Patrika’s original photocards.

On this issue, Hazrat Ali Gazi, In-Charge of the Digital Content Management Team of Ajker Patrika, told Rumor Scanner, “We did not publish any such news. And this font is not ours either.”

Meanwhile, no information was found on the Facebook page or website of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami regarding such an initiative. Similarly, no credible source or media outlet reported anything of this nature.

Therefore, the photocard circulated under the headline “Construction of idols in nearly 300 puja mandaps across the country under the initiative of Jamaat” in the name of Ajker Patrika is fake and fabricated.
