The government will roll out its annual fair-price sales programme during Ramadan, offering key food items at subsidised rates to help ease the cost burden on consumers.
Under the scheme, beef will be sold at Tk 650 per kg, milk at Tk 80 per litre, eggs at Tk 96 per dozen, and dressed poultry meat at Tk 250 per kg. The decision was taken at a meeting on Ramadan-focused fair-price sales held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Sunday.
Officials said the number of sales points will be increased compared to last year, with the products to be sold at 48 designated locations across the country.
An official from the Department of Livestock Services said the government would continue the programme as in previous years to support consumers during the fasting month. “We want to ease the hardship of fasting people during Ramadan. That is why we are working on this programme,” he said.
He added that discussions with suppliers have already been completed and arrangements are being made to expand sales coverage.
In the open market, beef is currently selling at Tk 720–780 per kg, dressed broiler chicken at Tk 350–400 per kg, live broiler chicken at Tk 180–190 per kg, milk at Tk 100 per litre, and eggs at Tk 110–120 per dozen, according to traders.
