The European Union (EU) delegation and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) held high-level discussions on cybersecurity, data protection, and the development of the country’s digital economy.
EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller and BTRC Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad ul Bari led the talks, which highlighted the importance of safeguarding fundamental rights while fostering innovation and attracting greater EU investment.
“Expanding broadband, deploying 5G, and improving last-mile connectivity are critical for a secure and inclusive digital future,” the EU envoy said, emphasizing the bloc’s commitment to support Bangladesh in building a safer, more connected digital ecosystem.
Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement, with the EU offering technical expertise under its Global Gateway strategy to help Bangladesh strengthen its digital infrastructure and cybersecurity framework.
