The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has sought Intertek’s support to strengthen technology transfer and upgrade skills of workers and management staff in the apparel sector to enhance competitiveness and sustainability.
The call came at a meeting between Intertek Bangladesh’s Regional Managing Director for South Asia, Ajay Kapur, and BGMEA Senior Vice-President Inamul Haque Khan at the association’s headquarters in Uttara on Wednesday.
Mr Khan highlighted the industry’s current challenges and urged Intertek to expand its Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification (ATIC) services across the supply chain. He said BGMEA aims to make the sector more sustainable by adopting digital platforms and providing regular training for workers and executives.
“Such initiatives will help Bangladesh’s apparel sector become more competitive and trusted in global markets,” he noted, reiterating BGMEA’s commitment to social and environmental compliance.
Praising Intertek’s longstanding contribution, he sought collaboration to build a comprehensive framework for the industry.
Mr Kapur, in response, stressed the global significance of Bangladesh’s apparel industry. “We are committed to strengthening our partnership with BGMEA to raise business standards and enhance the capacity of its members through world-class services,” he said.
Both sides agreed to explore new areas of cooperation, focusing on knowledge sharing and collective action to make supply chains more transparent and sustainable.
