Bangladesh PMI Slows to 53.5 in March

Slower expansion signals cooling in key sectors

Written by The Banking Post

Bangladesh’s economic expansion slowed in March, as the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) dipped 2.2 points to 53.5 compared to February, indicating a moderation in growth.

The latest data showed weaker performance in the agriculture sector, while manufacturing and construction both contracted. In contrast, the services sector continued to expand, albeit modestly.

A PMI reading above 50 signals economic growth, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

The Bangladesh PMI is compiled jointly by Policy Exchange Bangladesh and the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Dhaka, with technical support from a Singaporean institute.
