Bangladesh Bank continued its dollar-buying drive on Thursday, purchasing $55 million from five banks through an interbank spot market auction to help stabilise the exchange rate.
The dollars were bought under the Multiple Price Auction method, with a cut-off rate of Tk 122.30 per dollar, officials said.
With the latest transaction, the central bank’s dollar purchases in January have reached $798 million. Since July 13 last year, total purchases have climbed to $3.93 billion under the prevailing free-floating exchange rate regime, according to official data.
A senior central bank official said the intervention aims to support exporters and remittance earners by keeping the exchange rate stable, while also strengthening foreign exchange reserves.
Despite settling $1.53 billion in payments to Asian Clearing Union member countries earlier this month, the country’s gross foreign exchange reserves stood at $33.18 billion as of January 29, 2026, central bank data showed.
