Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur left his post around 2:00 pm today amid ongoing protests by a section of officials and speculation over a government-appointed successor.
At a press briefing earlier, Mansur called the protests a “conspiracy” by a vested group, alleging that a few officials were undermining discipline and recent financial sector progress.
Speaking later by phone, he clarified he did not formally resign but left after news aired about the appointment of a new governor. “There are formalities remaining. I will complete them later,” he said.
Mansur had arrived at BB headquarters at noon, canceling all scheduled meetings as protests continued. “I wish success for the new government and the successor,” he added.
