BB to Roll Out Redesigned Tk100 Note on Aug 12 with Advanced Security Features

Written by The Banking Post

Bangladesh Bank will release a redesigned Tk100 banknote on August 12, featuring advanced security elements aimed at curbing counterfeiting and increasing durability.

According to a press release from the central bank’s Communications and Publications Department, the new note incorporates 10 anti-counterfeit features. One of the most visible is a bold “100” printed in colour-shifting ink that changes hue when tilted.

A twisted security thread runs through four transparent windows, revealing the denomination when held against light. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, the thread displays “100 Taka” and “Bangladesh Bank” in microprint.

For visually impaired users, the note includes three raised tactile dots on the edge for easy identification. Other features include a see-through “100” that aligns perfectly when viewed against light, microprinted text, ultra-fine UV-reactive fibres, and a glossy protective coating for greater durability.

The redesigned bill measures 140mm by 62mm, the same as the current Tk100 note, but boasts sharper printing, richer colours, and high-definition reproductions of national symbols and the central bank’s logo.

Both the old and new Tk100 notes will remain in circulation. Banks, businesses, and the public will be briefed on recognising the updated security features.

The release is part of the central bank’s currency modernisation initiative, which has already updated the Tk1,000, Tk50, and Tk20 notes. The redesigned Tk100 will first be issued from the Motijheel branch before distribution across the country.
