Islami Bank Sets Landmark with Tk 20,000 Crore in Agent Banking Deposits

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has achieved a major milestone, surpassing Tk 20,000 crore in deposits through its agent banking network—cementing its position as a leader in the sector.

This record-breaking figure represents nearly 42 percent of the total agent banking deposits nationwide, the highest share held by any institution.

Launched in 2017, Islami Bank’s agent banking operations have expanded rapidly over the past nine years, now reaching 53 lakh customers, half of whom are women residing predominantly in rural areas. With an average of over Tk 1,000 crore in daily transactions, the platform is enabling inclusive and accessible banking for underserved populations.

The bank also leads in remittance collection, accounting for over 54 percent of the sector’s total in 2024, amounting to Tk 15,352 crore. By June 2025, remittances received via agent banking stood at Tk 8,984 crore, reaffirming Islami Bank’s dominance.

Currently, the bank operates through 2,791 outlets across 472 upazilas, making its footprint one of the widest in the country. Its Rural Development Scheme (RDS) further supports rural entrepreneurship, disbursing loans of up to Tk 5 lakh through 135 agent outlets.

Islami Bank attributes its sustained success to Shariah-compliant practices, robust technological infrastructure, and a focus on cost-effective service delivery—building strong customer trust and driving continuous growth.
