The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has ordered the immediate withdrawal of eight products from four companies after laboratory tests found they failed to meet national quality and safety standards.
According to a BSTI statement issued on Monday, some of the products contained excessive preservatives or harmful microorganisms, while others did not comply with the quality specifications set under Bangladesh standards.
Among the products withdrawn, Fresh Garden Agro Resources’ mango pickle (Batch No. FGMP200G0426) was found to contain preservatives beyond the permitted level.
Kazi Food Industries Ltd.’s Bellisimo Rotondo Hazelnut Coated Chocolate Ice Cream (Batch No. 26050101A) was found to contain total milk solids-not-fat above the level specified in the national standard.
Several personal care products manufactured by Olive Bangladesh Ltd. also failed quality tests after harmful microorganisms were detected. These include Labanya Milk Skin Lotion (Batch No. 2961104A), Aloe Vera Skin Lotion (Batch No. 2961204A), Olive and Labanya Moringa + Matcha Face Wash (Batch No. 2951404A), Foaming Milk and Tulsi Face Wash (Batch No. 2951204A), and Labanya Aloe Vera Shampoo (Batch No. 2921304A).
BSTI also found that Deco Foods Ltd.’s Fruit Funda mango and orange-flavoured soft drink powder (Batch No. 133) contained less vitamin C than required under Bangladesh standards.
The regulator said it has issued rejection notices to the companies concerned and instructed them to immediately stop manufacturing, selling and distributing the affected products until their product licences are renewed or approved.
BSTI Director General Kazi Imdadul Haque said the organisation remains committed to ensuring consumers have access to safe and quality products.
He urged consumers to check the BSTI certification mark, licence number, production and expiry dates, and other product information before making purchases.
He also requested the public to report any suspected substandard products, adulteration or misuse of the BSTI certification mark to the regulator immediately.
