CCCI polls delayed again amid legal hurdles

Chamber remains without elected leadership since 2024 upheaval

The election of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has been postponed once again, extending a prolonged leadership vacuum at the country’s oldest trade body.

Voting, which was scheduled for April 4, was suspended due to “unavoidable reasons,” according to a notice issued by the election board on Thursday. The latest delay adds to a series of setbacks that have stalled the electoral process for months.

CCCI has been without an elected board since September 2024, when its entire committee resigned following the political upheaval. Soon after, the government appointed an administrator to oversee the organisation.

Efforts to restore elected leadership have repeatedly faltered. An earlier election, initially slated for November 1, 2025, was called off just days before polling. Since then, the process has been entangled in legal disputes, including lawsuits and writ petitions.

Although two major panels had completed nominations and campaigning, the unresolved legal complications have continued to block progress, leaving the chamber’s leadership transition in limbo.
