Trading at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) began the week on Sunday with a sharp rise across all indices, as turnover crossed Tk 400 crore within the first hour.
By 11:00am, the number of gainers was nearly four times higher than the number of losers, reflecting strong buying pressure in the market.
Market data shows that the DSEX, the benchmark index, gained over 66 points or 1% to reach 5,584 points. The DS30, which tracks the top 30 blue-chip companies, rose by 28 points to 2,185, while the Shariah index edged up by 0.19 points to 1,226.
Out of 391 companies and mutual fund units traded, prices advanced for 263 issues, declined for 68, and remained unchanged for 60.
Total turnover during the first hour stood at Tk 401.09 crore, compared to Tk 326.64 crore during the same time on Thursday.
The top contributor to turnover was Taufika Foods and Lovello Ice-Cream PLC, which registered trades worth Tk 21.08 crore in the opening hour. On Thursday, Energypac Power Generation PLC had led turnover with Tk 12.79 crore.
