DSE slips, CSE advances in mixed weekly close

Late selling drags Dhaka index lower as Chittagong market ends in the green

Bangladesh’s stock market ended the final trading session of the week on a mixed note, with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) slipping into negative territory, while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) posted modest gains.

After opening higher, both bourses saw selling pressure intensify in the latter half of the session. The benchmark DSEX shed 6 points by the close. The Shariah-based DSES lost 2 points, while the blue-chip DS30 index edged down by 1 point.

On the DSE, market breadth turned negative, as shares of 189 companies declined against advances by 145, while 56 issues remained unchanged.

Turnover also fell sharply, with shares and units worth Tk 536 crore traded, down from Tk 605 crore in the previous session, indicating cautious investor participation.

In the block market, shares of 27 companies worth Tk 13 crore changed hands, led by Dominage Steel Building Systems Limited, which accounted for Tk 2 crore in turnover.

Asia Insurance PLC topped the gainers’ chart on the DSE, surging nearly 10 per cent, while MIDAS Financing PLC ended as the worst performer, shedding more than 5 per cent.

In contrast, the CSE closed higher, with its broad-based CASPI index adding 25 points. Market breadth remained positive, as prices of 87 stocks rose against declines by 57, while 20 issues closed unchanged.

Turnover on the port city bourse improved slightly to Tk 14 crore from Tk 13 crore a day earlier.

Asia Pacific General Insurance Company Limited led the gainers on the CSE with a 10 per cent rise, while Deshbandhu Polymer Limited topped the losers’ list after dropping more than 9 per cent.
