Advance train ticket sales for Eid-ul-Fitr travel began on Tuesday, with Bangladesh Railway opening bookings for passengers heading to the western region.

Sales started at 8:00am for journeys scheduled on March 13. All Eid tickets are being sold exclusively online, and the advance sale window will continue until March 9.

Tickets for inter-city trains on western routes are already available, while those for the eastern region will go live at 2:00pm, according to the public relations officer of the Ministry of Railways.

Under the schedule, passengers can purchase tickets on March 4 for travel on March 14; March 5 for March 15; March 6 for March 16; March 7 for March 17; March 8 for March 18; and March 9 for March 19.

Return journey tickets will be sold from March 13 to March 18.

Railway authorities said each passenger can buy tickets only once using a single national identity card, with a maximum of four seats allowed per transaction. Tickets purchased for Eid travel will not be eligible for refund under any circumstances.

To support passengers who fail to secure seats online, 25 per cent of non-AC coach tickets will be issued as standing tickets from originating stations before departure, officials said.

The special arrangements are aimed at easing the expected surge in homebound travel ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
