Bangladesh’s exports to Malaysia have grown more than fivefold over the past decade, reflecting stronger bilateral trade and investment ties.
Exports rose from $56 million to nearly $300 million during the period, said Mohd Shuhada Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh.
He said future cooperation would focus on high-tech sectors, particularly semiconductors, alongside deeper engagement in the global halal economy.
The envoy made the remarks at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) held at the Sheraton Dhaka on Saturday. As chief guest, he unveiled the chamber’s new logo and praised BMCCI’s role in strengthening trade and investment relations.
He also noted Malaysia’s position as the ninth-largest foreign investor in Bangladesh, underscoring the expanding economic partnership between the two countries.
Shabbir A Khan, President of BMCCI, highlighted the chamber’s journey since its founding in 2001, describing the Silver Jubilee logo as a symbol of resilience and future growth. He paid tribute to the 12 founding members and acknowledged the contributions of former leaders.
Over the past 25 years, BMCCI has facilitated bilateral business engagement through investment forums, trade fairs, business delegations, seminars and symposiums, helping to deepen commercial links between the two nations.
