Two vessels carrying refined fuel have arrived at Chattogram Port, offering some relief as global energy disruptions continue to affect supply chains.
A ship named “MT Central Star” পৌঁছেছে বুধবার রাতে, carrying 26,000 tonnes of octane from Malaysia, according to Chittagong Port Authority. The vessel is currently anchored at the port’s outer anchorage.
Another tanker, “MT Easton Queens”, arrived early বৃহস্পতিবার morning with 25,000 tonnes of furnace oil, and is now stationed at a separate anchorage point.
The arrivals come at a time when Bangladesh’s fuel supply remains under pressure due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The country requires around 6.5 to 6.8 million tonnes of fuel oil annually, with roughly 20 per cent sourced from Middle Eastern suppliers. The remainder is imported in refined form from countries including Malaysia, Singapore, China, India and Indonesia.
According to data from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, diesel demand alone is expected to reach about 400,000 tonnes in April, with plans in place to import an additional 325,000 tonnes خلال the month.
Officials said the latest shipments will help stabilise supply in the short term, as authorities continue efforts to manage fuel availability amid global uncertainty.
