Gold prices in Bangladesh have fallen steeply over the past month, shedding nearly Tk 40,000 per bhori amid a downturn in global bullion markets.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association on Friday cut prices by Tk 6,590 per bhori (11.664 grams), bringing the rate down to Tk 234,855.
Just weeks earlier, on March 2, gold was priced at Tk 274,104 per bhori, highlighting the sharp correction within a short span.
Frequent price cuts
Industry insiders say weakening international demand and easing global prices have driven the लगातार decline.
BAJUS adjusted gold prices 13 times between March 1 and 27, with 10 of those revisions being downward.
The latest adjustment followed a drop in the price of acid-tested (pure) gold in the local market. The new rates took effect from 10:00am on Friday after an emergency meeting of the association’s pricing committee.
New rates in effect
Under the revised structure, 22-carat hallmark gold now costs Tk 20,135 per gram, while 21-carat gold is priced at Tk 19,220 per gram.
The price of 18-carat gold stands at Tk 16,475 per gram, and traditional-method gold jewellery at Tk 13,415 per gram.
BAJUS also updated silver prices. The rate for 22-carat silver has been set at Tk 460 per gram, 21-carat at Tk 440, and 18-carat at Tk 380. Traditional-method silver now costs Tk 285 per gram.
Jewellers have been instructed to apply a 5% VAT on sales and deposit it with the government.
From record highs to sharp correction
Market participants say the পতন follows a period of record highs. In late January 2026, gold prices in Bangladesh surged past Tk 286,000 per bhori for 22-carat gold, driven by strong global demand and supply constraints.
The current পতন reflects a reversal in global trends, with softer demand in key international markets easing pressure on prices.
Despite the decline, traders say the market remains sensitive to global developments, suggesting further volatility in the الأيام ahead.
