The government has decided to sell assets of Nassa Group to settle outstanding workers’ dues and service benefits, in line with a court order, Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said on Sunday.

Speaking at the 15th meeting of the Advisers’ Council Committee reviewing labour and business conditions at Beximco Industrial Park, he said Tk 760 million has already been paid to workers through the sale of Nassa Group shares by a court-appointed administrator.

The adviser added that the company has also made down payments to eight banks following instructions from the Bangladesh Bank.

He said the remaining down payments to 15 banks, along with unpaid worker dues, will be cleared by selling some of the group’s assets through open competition.

Senior officials from the labour ministry, Bangladesh Bank, industrial police, and the ministries of home affairs, finance, and law attended the meeting, alongside representatives of Nassa Group, its administrator, and officials from commercial banks.

The move is part of efforts to ensure timely payment of workers’ entitlements while resolving the group’s financial obligations in an orderly and transparent manner.
