Stocks edge up in early trade

Broad-based buying lifts indices at both Dhaka and Chattogram bourses

Bangladesh’s stock markets opened the week on a positive note, with key indices posting gains in the first hour of trading on Sunday amid broad-based buying interest.

At the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the benchmark DSEX index rose by 43 points during early trade. The Shariah-compliant DSES index added 3 points, while the blue-chip DS30 index advanced by 16 points.

Trading activity was mixed, with prices of 101 companies moving higher, 101 declining and 65 remaining unchanged out of the 218 issues traded in the first hour. Turnover at the prime bourse crossed Tk 2.30 billion during the period.

The upbeat trend was mirrored at the Chattogram Stock Exchange, where the overall CASPI index climbed 68 points. Share prices rose for 63 companies, fell for 28 and remained unchanged for 10, while turnover stood at over Tk 82 million in early trading.
