Stocks Edge Up on Bargain Hunting

Blue-chip buying lifts market, though investors remain cautious

Written by The Banking Post

Stocks opened higher on Tuesday as investors returned to undervalued blue-chip shares, helping the market recover from the previous session’s decline.

Analysts said bargain hunters were active in selective stocks, while broader sentiment remained cautious as investors closely watched developments in the Middle East and assessed recent corporate earnings.

Some investors were also seen rebalancing portfolios following the latest earnings disclosures, keeping trading measured despite the early gains.

The benchmark DSEX of the Dhaka Stock Exchange rose more than 18 points, or 0.35%, to 5,296 in early trading. The blue-chip DS30 index edged up 1 point to 2,023, while the Shariah-based DSES index gained 8 points to 1,063.

Market participation was steady, with turnover reaching Tk 2.5 billion in the morning session.

Breadth remained positive, with gainers comfortably outnumbering losers. Of the traded issues, 219 advanced, 95 declined and 73 remained unchanged.

Trading was led by selective heavyweight and actively traded counters, with Monno Ceramics topping the turnover chart, followed by Beximco Pharma, Monno Fabrics and City Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also traded higher, with its broad index gaining 42 points, while the selective index rose 23 points, mirroring the upbeat tone in Dhaka.

Despite the positive opening, analysts said investors are likely to remain selective until clearer signals emerge on global geopolitical risks and domestic earnings trends.
