Bangladesh’s stock market opened on a bearish note on Thursday, with key indices at both the Dhaka and Chattogram stock exchanges falling in the first hour of trading amid broad-based price declines.
At the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the benchmark DSEX dropped 17 points in early trade. The Shariah-compliant DSES lost 5 points, while the blue-chip DS-30 index fell by 8 points.
Market breadth remained weak, with prices declining for 217 companies against gains for 81, while 86 issues remained unchanged. Turnover at the DSE crossed Tk 127 crore in shares and units during the first half of the session.
The negative trend extended to the Chattogram Stock Exchange, where the general index slid 44 points. At the port city bourse, prices rose for 25 companies, fell for 43 and stayed flat for 11.
Turnover at the CSE stood at about Tk 2 crore in shares and units in the first half of trading.
