The country’s major stock indices showed a mixed performance in early trading on Wednesday, with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) edging up while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) registered a marginal drop.

In the first hour of trading, the DSE’s benchmark index, DSEX, rose by 6 points, while the Shariah-compliant DSES and the blue-chip DS30 added 2 points and 1 point, respectively. Market turnover crossed Tk 2 billion during the period.

Market breadth on the DSE was positive, with 188 issues advancing, 116 declining, and 88 remaining unchanged.

Conversely, the CSE’s overall index fell by 20 points in the same period. Of the 99 issues traded, 43 gained, 44 declined, and 12 remained flat, with turnover exceeding Tk 40 million.

Market analysts noted that the early session movements reflected cautious trading ahead of key earnings and dividend announcements expected later this month.
