Stocks opened higher on Sunday as investors returned to the market, snapping up beaten-down shares even as geopolitical tensions continued to weigh on sentiment.
Analysts said selective buying of undervalued stocks helped keep the market buoyant, with investors cautiously positioning themselves amid uncertainty surrounding developments in the Middle East.
The upward trend was also supported by expectations around the ongoing corporate earnings season. Strong results—particularly from banking and pharmaceutical companies—could draw fresh investment in the coming sessions, market participants said.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange rose by 52 points, or 0.97 per cent, to 5,350 by 11:00am.
The DS30 index, comprising leading blue-chip stocks, gained 22 points to reach 2,037, while the Shariah-based DSES index edged up 4 points to 1,071.
Turnover improved notably, with total transactions reaching Tk 3.40 billion, indicating stronger participation compared to recent sessions.
Market breadth remained positive, with 244 stocks advancing, 67 declining and 74 remaining unchanged.
Among the most actively traded stocks were City Bank, Dominage Steels, Lovello Ice-cream, Peoples Insurance and Summit Alliance Port.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also followed suit, with its benchmark indices moving higher during the session.
Despite the gains, analysts say investors remain cautious, closely watching global developments and domestic economic signals for clearer direction in the days ahead.
