Stocks start higher in early trading

DSE and CSE indices post modest gains as investors show selective interest

Bangladesh’s stock markets opened on a positive note on Wednesday, with key indices of both bourses posting gains in the first half of the session amid selective buying.

At the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the benchmark DSEX index rose by 8 points in early trading. The Shariah-based DSES remained flat, while the blue-chip DS30 index edged down by 2 points.

Market breadth was positive in Dhaka, as share prices of 194 companies advanced, compared to 100 decliners, while 88 issues remained unchanged. Turnover at the premier bourse stood at Tk 2.30 billion during the period, indicating moderate trading activity.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also opened higher, with its overall CASPI index gaining 34 points in the first half of the session. On the port city bourse, prices of 46 companies rose, 26 declined and 9 remained unchanged.

The CSE recorded a turnover of Tk 40 million in early trading, reflecting a cautious but upbeat start to the day.
