Bangladesh’s garment sector has strengthened its global leadership in sustainable manufacturing, with three more factories securing LEED certification from the US Green Building Council, pushing the national tally to 273.
Hams Garments Ltd, located in Sreepur, Gazipur, achieved LEED Platinum certification with a remarkable 108 out of 110 points — the highest score ever recorded worldwide under this category. The milestone sets a new global benchmark for green industrial facilities.
Two other factories also earned recognition. Ecotrims Bangladesh Ltd – Unit 1, based in Telihati, Gazipur, received Gold certification with 70 points, while NAFA Apparels Ltd – Unit 1, in Kaliakoir, Gazipur, secured Gold with 65 points.
Of Bangladesh’s 273 LEED-certified garment factories, 115 are now rated Platinum and 139 hold Gold certification, according to former BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel.
Bangladesh continues to dominate the global rankings, hosting 69 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories, reinforcing its position as a leader in environmentally compliant apparel manufacturing.
To mark the achievement, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will hold an appreciation ceremony on Saturday to honour Hams Garments for its record-breaking performance, highlighting the growing global stature of the “Made in Bangladesh” brand.
