A group of unidentified miscreants allegedly looted Tk 1.6 million from the vault of a Bangladesh Krishi Bank branch in Khulna’s Rupsha upazila after breaking through multiple layers of security.
Police said the incident took place sometime between Thursday evening and late Friday night. The theft was discovered around 10:00 pm on Friday when the bank’s security guard noticed that the collapsible gate at the main entrance had been forced open.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that Tk 1.60 million was stolen after the vault was broken into,” said Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rupsha Police Station. He added that CCTV footage from surrounding areas has been collected to aid the investigation.
Bank Manager Kamrul Islam confirmed that a total of Tk 1.616 million was missing from the vault.
Police have detained three security guards of the branch — Afzal, Abul Kashem, and Tariqul — for questioning in connection with the incident.
