The National Board of Revenue has extended the deadline for submitting March VAT returns to April 23, citing public holidays and technical issues following an upgrade of the e-VAT system.
Under existing rules, monthly VAT returns must be filed by the 15th of the following month. However, this deadline was pushed back due to the Pahela Baishakh holiday and complications arising from the updated online platform.
This marks the third consecutive month the tax authority has extended the filing deadline.
Previously, the deadline for February returns was deferred to March 29 due to the Eid holidays. January filings were also delayed by a week to February 22 because of a government holiday linked to the February 12 national election.
Officials said the extension aims to ease compliance for businesses facing technical and holiday-related disruptions.
Failure to submit VAT returns within the stipulated timeframe carries a penalty of Tk 5,000 per month.
