The World Bank’s Country Director, Jean Pesme, accompanied by a senior management team, visited the 6.05 MWp rooftop solar project at GPH Ispat Ltd on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The project, financed by Infrastructure Development Company Limited, is among the largest rooftop solar installations in Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
The delegation was joined by IDCOL Executive Director and CEO Alamgir Morshed, and Md Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL, along with other senior officials.
During the visit, Jean Pesme praised Bangladesh’s progress in scaling up clean energy solutions and stressed the importance of partnerships to drive sustainable development.
Alamgir Morshed highlighted IDCOL’s ongoing commitment to financing renewable energy, particularly rooftop solar projects. He noted that IDCOL has already financed around 220 MWp of rooftop solar and aims to reach 1,150 MWp by 2030, with a pipeline exceeding 200 MWp.
The 6.05 MWp rooftop solar system at GPH Ispat Ltd is expected to provide clean electricity for industrial operations while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reflecting growing private sector participation in renewable energy.
The visit underscores the continued collaboration between the World Bank and IDCOL in promoting climate-resilient infrastructure and advancing Bangladesh’s clean energy agenda.
