The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) is expected to announce its election schedule soon after the appointment of a new administrator, according to the FBCCI Reform Council.
The development was disclosed by Reform Council Member Secretary Md Zakir Hossain at a press briefing on Sunday following a meeting with incumbent FBCCI Administrator Abdur Rahim Khan at the apex trade body’s Motijheel office.
He said several decisions were taken at the meeting, including a proposal that the next administrator should come from the business community.
“We want a new administration for the business community,” he said.
The reform council also decided that any amendment to the Trade Organisation Rules, 2025 must involve mandatory discussions between the council and the incoming administrator.
As part of broader reform measures, the council proposed reducing the annual registration fee for chambers to Tk 40,000 from the existing Tk 100,000.
The annual fee for associations would also be lowered to Tk 35,000 from Tk 75,000, aiming to ease the financial burden on trade bodies and encourage wider participation in business organisations.
